MiCA Regulation to Go into Effect in EU
The European Union adopted a regulation on markets in crypto-assets (MiCA) in May, setting an EU-level framework for crypto-assets for the first time. MiCA will go into force on June 29, 2023, and will regulate utility tokens, stablecoins, and significant asset-referenced tokens or significant e-money tokens.

House Financial Services Committee “Very Close” to Agreement on Stablecoin Bill
Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT) stated that the House Financial Services Committee is “very close” to agreement on a stablecoin bill. Committee Chair Patrick McHenry (R-NC) said he wants to hold votes on crypto legislation the second week of July, after Congress returns from the two-week July 4th recess. Relatedly, Rep. French Hill (R-AK), Chair of the House Financial Services Digital Assets, Financial Technology and Inclusion Subcommittee said that the Committee has “had outstanding engagement from both Democratic and Republican members” on crypto legislation.
