DOJ announced that 12 defendants have been sentenced for their roles in a scheme involving a series of home invasion robberies targeting cryptocurrency. According to court documents, the defendants stole over $3.5 million from victims through SIM swapping and violent home invasions in which they held victims at gunpoint, assaulted them, and bound them with plastic cable ties in order to gain access to victims’ crypto accounts. The defendants received sentences ranging from five to 20 years in prison.
